Homemade bomb explodes, two injured

Two men were seriously injured when a homemade bomb containing screws and bolts exploded in their vehicle.

The blast occurred just after 08:00 on Friday morning near an open field in Suiderberg.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier said the two men were sitting in their vehicle next to an open field where they were apparently experimenting with homemade bombs.

“One of the bombs exploded inside the vehicle and another device exploded a few metres away,” she said.

Olivier said the vehicle was damaged and both men were arrested for manufacturing bombs illegally.

They were taken to the Kalafong hospital, where they were being treated for their injuries under police guard.
