The police officer who was gunned down in his Moot home two weeks ago, was, according to his family, involved in a love triangle shortly before his murder.

Rekord earlier reported that Lieutenant-Colonel Reinier Lagois (42) was shot fourteen times at his home.

The Hawks have since arrested a Pretoria west police officer in connection with the murder.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the officer, Constable Rishen Rampashard, was arrested on Friday, and briefly appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

According to Hennie Lagois, his brother had lived with his ex-girlfriend, a former station commander at the Pretoria West police, in the house where he was murdered.

“They were lovers and owned the property jointly. They had broken up though and he was sleeping in a separate room. He was planning on moving out shortly before his death, as they were not on speaking terms,” he told Rekord on Wednesday.

According to Hennie, the woman was inside the house when Lagois was shot.

“Police haven’t had a chance to take her statement, as she was taken to a psychiatric hospital shortly after the murder.”

Hennie said his brother had seen Rampashard, on several occasions, driving the woman’s car after the couple had broken up.

He said the family was still trying to determine the motive for the killing.

“We don’t know why he was killed. Our family is not taking this well, especially my mother. We were six siblings and one of our brothers is now gone.”

Mulaudzi said Rampashad remained in police custody.

“His case was postponed to 8 February, for a bail application,” he said.
