Chaos erupted outside the Pretoria West police station on Thursday afternoon when workers who had protested against outsourcing angrily demanded the release of four of their comrades.
The four protesters were arrested earlier on Thursday near the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Pretoria West campus.

Outsourcing protest leader and spokesperson Vusi Mahlangu said police arrested four workers and that their co-protesters were therefore outside the police station demanding their release.

“Police earlier in the morning threw stun grenades at us and fired rubber bullets during our morning protest,” said Mahlangu.

He said the four workers were taken to the Pretoria West police station where the protest was then relocated to.

“We are simply demanding the release of our members.”

Police could not be reached for comment despite numerous attempts.
