NEWSFLASH: Woman missing after Apies flooding

A woman is missing after her car was washed off trying to cross a low-lying bridge in the west of Pretoria this morning.

Tshwane emergency services said the car was  found 1km away from where the incident happened.

This happened on Flowers Street at 04:00 along the Apies river.

“We have found the car and the boy but the woman is still missing,” Johan Pieterse emergency service spokesperson said.

Pieterse said the Apies river road, Flowers and Behrens streets were closed off earlier.

“The road has been opened but it will be closed again later as we expect rain to flood the road again.”

He said search and rescue operation continues.

Meanwhile, another vehicle got stuck in the same area but it was removed and no one sustained injuries.

“Emergency personnel managed  to pull the car out. No one was injured,” Emergency services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said.

He urged motorists to avoid low-lying areas.
