Quatro operations manager for armed response, Das Meerholz said he arrived at the scene after the accident occurred.

“It is unclear at this stage what exactly happened. By the time I arrived on the scene police had already cordoned it off. We are now waiting for police reports.”

Meerholz said there were two vehicles on the scene, the Quatro response vehicle and a Mercedes Benz SUV.

“The accident happened right after our officer reported for his day shift.”

Meerholz said he tried to get hold of the officer’s family members. “We believe his wife passed away a few months ago.”

According to fellow officers he apparently lived alone in Soshanguve.

“He was a very short man, but he had a big heart. He was a very loyal employee. I could always count on him. If another officer was unable to work, he would always be willing to step in,” Meerholz said.

He had been a Quatro employee since August 2016.

“On behalf of Quatro we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to his loved ones, said Meerholz.

Kilnerpark Security spokesperson Ancelize van der Kooi, said their response officers were also on the scene and gave assistance.

Police were unable to give details by the time of publishing.
