Police arrest 62 during weekend operations

A total of 62 people were arrested by Tshwane Central cluster police over the weekend.

Crime prevention operations were conducted in Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Lyttelton, Sunnyside, Silverton, Pretoria Moot and Villieria police stations.

“Seven police stations joined forces and conducted cross border operations,” said police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.

Policewomen took the lead in these operations as part of Women’s month celebrations.

“The focus of the operations was to address contact, drug and property related crimes.”

“As a result, four arrests were made for assault, seven for theft, three for possession of stolen property and five for fraud.”

Weilbach said there was zero tolerance regarding driving offences.

“Nine drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.”

She said the biggest success was the 30 arrests made for drug related offences.

“Other arrests were made for housebreaking and malicious damage to property.”

“All those arrested will appear in the Hatfield Community and Pretoria Magistrate’s Courts respectively on Monday.”

Weilbach said joint crime prevention operations, awareness campaigns, roadblocks and roadshows would continue throughout August where women in blue would take the lead in keeping residents safe.
