Hercules police warn against gate motor theft

Hercules police are urging residents to be aware of gate motor and dustbin theft.

Police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said a number of stolen electric gate motors have been reported in Hercules in the past few weeks.

There has been an increase in theft of electric gate motors in the last six months in Pretoria.

Hercules police station commander Colonel Johannes Stephanus de Villiers urged residents to ensure they bolt the gate motor to the ground.

“They should also mark the gate motor with an electric mark and then take photos thereafter because that can assist during identification of property.”

De Villiers said the same can be done with dustbins.

“If residents can mark their bins and put their details on them then it will be easier to identify when stolen. Furthermore, police will be able to inform the owner when the suspects are arrested,” he said.

Msimango said Hercules SAPS made a few successes over the weekend. They arrested 39 people for various crimes including possession of drugs, drunk driving, robbery, theft, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft out of motor vehicles, drunkenness, drinking in public and a pedestrian source of danger.

“Ten suspects were arrested for possession of drugs which highlights the excess availability and use of drugs in the streets of Hercules. The number of arrests is a true reflection that police are on the ground, however, we urge the community to work together with the police in order to clean up drugs in our area,” Msimango said.
