Farewell for metro cop killed on duty

There will be a memorial service for the metro police officer who died after he was hit by a taxi on the notorious Moloto Road.

The service will be held on Thursday morning.

Constable Kenneth Kokela was hit by a minibus while he was on duty conducting a stop-and-search operation on Monday along Moloto Road.

It was alleged that the taxi hit him while he was trying to stop it.

He died on the scene.

Tshwane metro police spokesperson Nhlanhla Mgiba said police were investigating the matter.

She said the department was reeling from the loss of the 39-year-old officer.

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden death of constable Kokela,” she said.

Kokela had been with the metro police for three years.

Mgiba said the memorial service will be held at the metro police’s headquarters on the corner of Eskia Mphahlele and WF Nkomo at 10:00.
