Atteridgeville shooting sparks looting spree

A 20-year-old man was shot and killed in Atteridgeville on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said this happened at the corner of Maboa and Ramushu streets around 09:30.

“When police arrived at the scene, they found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head,” he said.

“It is alleged that the deceased was shot by an Ethiopian man, who works near the victim’s shop.”

Mufamadi said the motive for the shooting was unknown.

“After the shooting, looting of businesses started in and around Atteridgeville. Two suspects aged between 32 and 26 were arrested for looting and are detained at Atteridgeville police station.”

Mufamadi said investigations were underway and a case of murder was opened.
