VIDEO: Metro demolishes Eersterust building

The Tshwane metro demolished a dilapidated building used by drug addicts during the clean-up of the Eersterust cemetery.

Spokesperson Selby Bokaba said the building was allegedly used by nyaope addicts, who terrorised local residents of the area.

“Our maintenance team also assisted with grass cutting, pruning of the trees and clearing of illegal dumping,” he said.

“There was also a drug and substance abuse awareness [campaign], which were conducted by members of the police.”

Local DA councillor Benjamin Lawrence, who participated in the clean-up, said: “I am very happy about this initiative … the addicts had destroyed gravestones in the past.”
