Police were hot on the trail of a gang of cash-in-transit robbers in the Moot area on Thursday evening.

Earlier there was a cash-in-transit heist on the corner of Steve Biko Road and Ben Swart Street in Villieria on Thursday afternoon.

Apparently an unknown number of robbers hijacked a white bakkie which they used to flee the scene.

Eyewitnesses told Rekord that the suspects fled in the bakkie after forcing the passengers and driver out.

“When our neighbours tried to take videos of the heist they were shot at by the suspects,” an eyewitness said.

Hi-Risk Unit security service and the police were on the scene and pursuing the suspects at the time of print.

Police could not confirm if any shots were fired.
