Police were on Thursday evening still searching for the suspects who attempted to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle in the Moot area.

Earlier, would-be robbers pounced on a cash van at the corner of Steve Biko Road and Ben Swart Street in Villieria.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo confirmed though, that no money had been taken during the attempted heist.

“Preventative measures put in place by the cash-in-transit companies stopped the suspects from gaining access to the money,” said Naidoo.

Naidoo could not confirm the number of suspects or the vehicles they were travelling in. He said the information was sensitive to the ongoing investigation.

He could also not confirm that one of the getaway vehicles had been hijacked.
