65 arrested in Tshwane for various offences

Sixty-five arrests were made in the Tshwane central area over the weekend, many of which involved drunk-driving incidents.

Arrests were made the Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Lyttelton, Sunnyside, Silverton, Pretoria Moot and Villieria policing precincts.

They were the result of various multi-disciplinary intelligence-driven operations.

Twenty-five drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during roadblock operations, said spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.

“The central police cluster has zero tolerance towards drivers who are driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” said Weilbach.

Female law enforcement officials took the lead in Saturday’s drunk driving operation in Hatfield.  Fourteen of the total arrests were made by them.

Other arrests include 24 for drug-related crimes, nine for theft and shoplifting, one for fraud, one for possession of stolen property and three for possession of house or car break-in equipment.

“All those arrested will appear in the Hatfield Community Court and Pretoria Magistrates’ Court, respectively, on Monday,” said Weilbach.

Meanwhile central cluster commander, Major General Yvonne Botsheleng commended the police members, community safety department, metro and traffic police as well as the community police forum structures for their dedication and commitment.

August will be earmarked by increased female-led police visibility and multi-disciplinary intelligence-driven operations.

Communities have once again been urged to report any suspicious people, vehicles (especially ones without number plates) or circumstances to the police by phoning the 10111 emergency-number.

Information regarding crime can be given to the police anonymously by phoning 08600 10111 or by sending an SMS to 32211.

Fraud, corruption, unethical behaviour or any other suspicious activities can be reported to the Gauteng standby provincial duty numbers: duty general on 082-313-8299, duty brigadier 082-444-4354.
