Work to repair the Daspoort tunnel in the west of Pretoria has been concluded.
DA ward councillor Frik van Wyk said the safety railings in the tunnel had been restored to ensure pedestrian safety.

He said the tunnel had been a safety hazard for pedestrians for many years.
“Some of the railings have been compromised by vandals for selling steel,” he said.
Van Wyk said the repairs were important to him.
“The maintenance of the Daspoort tunnel has been neglected for many years due to lack of funds. But this should not always be used as an excuse,” he said.
“Residents of Ward 55’s safety comes first and therefore I will always apply pressure as far as safety is concerned. “
He said there were several roads that also required serious attention.
“Although it feels that maintenance is not done in time, I assure the residents that the current DA administration has already made plans to make the plans a reality,” he said.
