A 32-year-old man was arrested in the Moot over the weekend for being in possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition.
The man was arrested during a routine stop-and-search late Sunday evening, according to police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt.
“While the police was on patrol in Steve Biko Road, they spotted a charcoal-coloured Kia with tinted windows travelling towards town,” he said.
Breedt said police pulled the vehicle over for a routine search and found the driver to be in possession of a 9mm pistol he kept in a holster.
The driver could, however, not provide a licence for the firearm; saying he only recently bought it.
Police seized the firearm and arrested the man.
The man has since appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate’s court.
He was remanded in custody for seven days for further investigation, which found that the firearm was reported stolen from the Wonderboompoort police station.
Pretoria Moot station commander Colonel Hlengani Mashaba commended the officers for their good work.
