A man trying to flee from a Moot filling station without paying for fuel, ended up crashing into a pole-barrier.

Ambulance services and police were called to the scene at a filling station on the corner of Van Rensburg and Paul Kruger streets at midnight on Saturday.

According to Best Care ambulance services spokesperson, Xander Loubser, the driver had apparently lost control of his vehicle when he tried to race away from the scene without paying R450 for petrol.

Loubser said the wet road surface following the rain probably contributed to the accident.

“He is not injured,” Loubser said on scene, “but will probably be locked up now.”

The driver was arrested by police and taken to Wonderboompoort police station.
