Only Feathers can Fly was written by Casper Bicks and is about the love between a police officer and his girlfriend.

Bicks said the actors in the film were voluntary Eersterust residents and the lead roles would be played by Jenni Adams and Imraan Rudolph.

“The movie is about a police officer, Sam Shibambo, who, after a successful drug bust, wants to impress his girlfriend, Susan, by asking her to marry him,” Bicks said.

“He plans a romantic setting in a hot air balloon. All hell breaks loose following a sequence of unforeseen events – Susan finds herself alone in the run-away balloon.”

“Leaving her boyfriend and the pilot behind, she eventually crash lands in the Kalahari. Now Susan has to learn how to adapt to the lifestyle of the Bushman while her boyfriend faces the music alone.”

Bicks said he started working on the film in 2012 when he applied for financing.

“Both of the companies that I applied to, requested that I send them a motivation and the reaches of the film,” he said.

“After my funding was approved, I went to the Kalahari and flew to Upington. From Upington I drove about 210 kilometers north west to a small town, where I met the late Bushman Chief David Kruipes.”

He lived with the bush people for a week after which he went to the Kgalagadi Game Park in Botswana.

Bicks said he did everything in an attempt to do research for his film.

“At the game park I learned that no twins were born in the Kalahari. This inspired me to write a second story. I hope that I will be able to make a success of my second film,” he said.

“During my time in making this film, I have learnt that film-making is a business and can not rely on funding.”

He had to sell some of his stuff to make a success out of this film.

Bicks thanks all the people involved that helped him with the film.
