Wonderboompoort police arrest 34 over Easter

A total of 34 people were arrested by Wonderboompoort police at the weekend.

“All those detained were formally charged and will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, as prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Act,” said police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane.

Zwane said the following arrests were made:

– Three for pedestrian source of danger

– Two for violating the Road Traffic Management Act

– Four for drinking in public

– Ten for being excessively intoxicated in public

– Two for shoplifting

– Three for drunkenness

– One for assault

– One for urinating in public

– Three for theft

– One for theft out of a motor vehicle

– One for crimen injuria and malicious damage to property

– Three for driving without a driver’s licences.

In an unrelated event, Wonderboompoort police also arrested a 26-year-old man for theft last Monday.

Zwane said police were called to attend to a complaint at Spar in President Kruger Street in Mayville around 11:45.

“Upon arrival they were taken to the security room and introduced to a suspect with a trolley full of groceries,” said Zwane.

“It is alleged the suspect took the groceries in the shop and walked past the till point without making the necessary payment.”

Zwane said the man was stopped in the parking area and asked to produce proof of payment and he could not, as he had not made any.”

Zwane said the suspected stolen property was valued at R260.

He said the man was read his rights and detained.

Zwane said the culprit had since appeared in court and the case was postponed for further investigation. He remained in police custody.
